US Court Orders Release Of President Tinubu's Credentials Amid Political Dispute

In a groundbreaking legal development, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has issued a memorandum opinion and order, compelling Chicago State University (CSU) to release the academic credentials of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

The ruling came as a result of an application filed by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Nigerian election, who had been seeking access to President Tinubu’s university records.

In the order issued by Judge Nancy Maldonado, the court overruled President Tinubu’s objections to Abubakar’s application, emphasizing that its decision should not be construed as taking a stance on the merits of Abubakar’s claims or the validity of the Nigerian election.

The court stated, “The Court simply finds, on the narrow question before it, that Mr. Abubakar is entitled to the production of documents and testimony that he seeks from CSU.” This decision has the potential to significantly impact the ongoing political discourse surrounding President Tinubu’s qualifications.

According to the court order, Chicago State University is now required to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to Abubakar’s subpoena by 12:00 p.m. CDT on Monday, October 2, 2023.

Additionally, a deposition of CSU’s corporate designee under Rule 30(b)(6) must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

This ruling sets the stage for potential revelations about President Tinubu’s educational history and could have far-reaching implications in the Nigerian political landscape as the 2023 election approaches.

The eyes of the nation are now fixed on the disclosure of these documents and the subsequent developments in this highly charged political battle.
