UNN Celebrates Golden Legacy With Maiden Prof. Frank Ndili Memorial Lecture

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) is set to relive one of its most illustrious eras with the maiden edition of the Professor Frank Ndili Memorial Lecture.

According to a schedule released by the Chairman, Senate Ceremonial Committee, UNN, Professor Chikelue Ofuebe, the event will hold on Thursday,  26 June 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

The iconic Princess Alexandra Auditorium, UNN, serves as the venue for the event.

The lecture, themed “Academic and Administrative Achievements of Emeritus Professor Frank N. Ndili,” will be delivered by Emeritus Professor P.N. Okeke, first PhD graduate of UNN, who was supervised by Professor Ndili. The Acting Vice Chancellor of UNN, Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam, will serve as Chief Host.

This commemorative lecture honours Professor Frank Ndili, Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka from 1980 to 1985. His administration is widely regarded as the golden age of the university. During his tenure, UNN witnessed revolutionary infrastructural development, including top-tier municipal services such as sustainable water supply, steady electricity, and a modern sewage system. His leadership also attracted a vibrant academic community comprising many expatriates who enriched the university’s intellectual and cultural life.

Despite facing significant challenges, Professor Ndili’s impact on the university endures, with many of his projects still forming the backbone of UNN’s infrastructure.

The administration of Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam is committed to preserving and maintaining these legacies. By celebrating excellence and the enduring contributions of past leaders, the university seeks to deepen collaborations with alumni and former administrators, attract new investments, and respond innovatively to the rising infrastructure needs and dwindling budget realities facing tertiary education in Nigeria.
