UNILAG Moves To Resolve Radiography Accreditation Crisis

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has responded to the viral video showing the poor living conditions of a 300-level student, expressing gratitude for the widespread support and concern from the community.

The university’s management has completed investigations into the situation and engaged with both the student and the video’s producer.

Relocation and Support

The affected student has since moved from the flooded building featured in the video to a guardian’s home. She has also accepted the university’s offer of on-campus accommodation for the remainder of her studies at UNILAG.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who has donated and supported me during this difficult time,” she said. Donations to her and the video producer have reached millions of naira, thanks to the generosity of the public.

Verification and Assistance Programmes

UNILAG’s management has advised those wishing to help indigent students to verify appeals through the Students Affairs Division. This can be done via phone at +234 818 537 0948 or email at dsa@unilag.edu.ng. The university emphasizes the importance of verification to ensure that support reaches genuine students in need.

“We appreciate the willingness of individuals and organizations to assist our students,” the university said. “However, it is crucial that all donations are verified to ensure they are directed to those who truly need them.”

Support Programmes Available

UNILAG offers several programmes designed to assist indigent students, accessible through the Student Affairs Division. These include:

  • Indigent Students Scheme: Provides funds, meal tickets, and raw food items.
  • Triple A: Adopt-An-Akokite Project: Encourages individuals to support a student.
  • UNILAG Scholars Award Scheme: Offers scholarships to deserving students.
  • Work-Study Programme: Allows students to work part-time within the university.
  • Pay for Mentors Project: Supports mentoring relationships.
