UN: Over 400,000 Displaced, 23 Aid Workers Tragically Killed

In the wake of the ongoing crisis, the United Nations(UN)’ humanitarian office (OCHA) has revealed that since the commencement of Israeli retaliatory strikes following Hamas attack on Saturday, more than 400,000 people have been forced to flee their homes.

This mass displacement is a testament to the severity of the conflict, which has taken a heavy toll on the lives of those caught in its crossfire.

In addition to the displacement, a total of 23 aid workers have lost their lives since the weekend, including 11 health workers and 12 employees of UNRWA, the UN Palestinian refugee agency.

In response to this humanitarian crisis, the UN has launched an urgent appeal for nearly $294 million. This funding is aimed at aiding the 1.3 million people in Gaza and the West Bank, with a significant portion designated for food aid to address the diminishing supplies.

Mass displacement continues to rise, with the cumulative number of internally displaced persons surging by 25% in the past 24 hours, now exceeding 423,000. Of those, over two-thirds have sought shelter in UNRWA schools, highlighting the urgent need for support and resources to alleviate the suffering of those affected.

The escalating violence has resulted in a staggering loss of life on both sides since Hamas initiated a surprise assault, triggering Israel’s retaliatory bombing campaign.
