Nigerians Spent N156.5 billion In Two Weeks On Petrol, Lagos Leads States

In two weeks, Nigerians consumed 966.58 million litres of petrol, which cost them about N156.58 billion, in May, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), with Lagosians spending the highest amongst state.

According to data on NNPC Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) distribution, Lagos State received 149.33 million litres from the government-run oil cabal, which means Lagosians spent about N24.19 billion to fuel their households, businesses, vehicles, and many more between May 16 and May 29, 2022.

Fuel has become a necessary commodity for Nigerians beyond the usage to fuel cars and motorcycles, due to poor power supply in the country this year, with mational grip collapsing five times in the last six months.

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EDC) Plc and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) Plc had confirmed on Sunday that the power grid collapsed, adding to those recorded twice in March and April.

This is more than the total number of times it collapsed in 2021, which is four. Under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the national grid has collapsed 90 times, however, the number is 216 between 2010 and 2020.

Meanwhile, aside from Lagos, other South West states received petrol allocation of 59.05 million litres in Oyo, 51.76 million in Ogun, Ondo got 9.6 million, Ekiti received 4.4 million, and Kwara 31.25 million litres.

According to the NNPC data, Northern states received the following, Kano 86.19 million, Niger 73.91 million, Zamfara 42.12 million, Adamawa 34.28 million, Kaduna 26.07 million, Yobe 4.9 million, Katsina 4.59 million, Sokoto 4.16 million, Bauchi 2.48 million, Jigawa 1.1 million, Kebbi 8.04 million, Kogi 7.74 million, Taraba 7.25 million, and Nasarawa 5.54 million.

Allocation to Southern states are as follows: Delta 45.86 million, Edo 34.66 million, Rivers 31.25 million, Enugu 25.77 million, Bayelsa 6.2 million, Ebonyi 4.9 million and amongst others.
