Tottenham, Manchester United Seek Improved Run in Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United eye improved run in the Europa league after making it to the last eight of the 2024/2025 season.

The two English teams overcame their Dutch and Spanish opponents in the last 16 final battles Thursday respectively to advance.

While Tottenham got the better part of Alkmaar Zaanstreek, advancing on 3-2 aggregate, Manchester United edged Spanish side Real Sociedad on 5-2 aggregate to advance.

Bruno Fernandes was particularly superb for United grabbing a hat-trick in their 4-1 win over Sociedad.

United face Lyon who hammered Romania FCSB’s 7-1 over two legs in the quarterfinals two legged clash while Spurs battle German side Eintracht Frankfurt, who sacked Ajax 4-1 in their last 16 second leg.

Tottenham have won the Europa league twice way back in 1972 and 1984. Manchester United on the other hand have won the title just once in 2017.

An attempt to win a second title in 2021 failed after the old Trafford landlords finished second best after losing on penalties to Villarreal.

The encounter had ended 1-1 apiece before the Spanish side won 11-10 on penalties. Sevilla are the highest winners of the Europa league with seven titles in the kitty.

Meanwhile returnee Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru saw 10 minutes action for Lazio as they progressed at the expense of Czech Republic side Viktoria Plzen.

Lazio had been held 1-1 at home but their earlier victory away to turned out to be vital, as it helped them progress on 3-2 aggregate. Bashiru was called to action in the 79th minute.
