4. How Insecurity Threatens Nigeria’s $4.12bn Rail Infrastructure Investment 

There are concerns that with the recurring incidents of attacks, kidnapping and destruction witnessed in Nigeria’s rail infrastructure, the over $4.12 billion so far spent by the current administration in the sector may be threatened.

Last week Saturday, some gunmen besieged a railway station in Igueben, Edo State and abducted over 30 passengers. 

This is just 10 months after the Abuja-Kaduna rail attack where many were also kidnapped and others killed or injured.

5. Banks and Customers Urge  CBN to Shift Deadline On Old notes 

With the January 31 deadline given by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) drawing close, bank customers have called for an extension of Time.

The apex bank, however, is insisting on maintaining the deadline for phasing out the old N1,000, N500 and N200 notes.

Many have raised the alarm about the near non-availability of the newly redesigned naira notes since they were introduced into the system on December 15.

Many commercial banks Automated Teller Machines across the country are still dispensing old notes instead of new ones.

8. NNPC Confirms Discovery of Oil In Nasarawa, To Begin Drilling March 

The Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed the discovery of oil deposits in Nasarawa, State in the North Central part of the country.

Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, said it is set to begin the exploration of the first oil well in Nasarawa State in March 2023.

10. Economy: Non-oil Exports Rose to $4.8bn in 2022 – NEPC

Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has revealed that the country’s non-oil exports grew by 39.91 per cent in 2022 to $4.820 billion.

Executive Director/CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Ezra Yukusak, disclosed on Friday during the presentation of the non-oil export performance for the year 2022 in Abuja.
