1. Police Surrounds Labour Party’s Secretariat, As NWC Appoints Acting National Chairman

The crisis rocking the Labour Party took a different turn on Thursday as seven members of the National Working Committee of the Party, announced the appointment of the National Vice-Chairman (South), Lamidi Bashir Apapa, as the acting national chairman of the party, replacing the suspended chairman, Julius Abure.

Abure’s suspension notice came through an order issued by the Federal Capital Territory High Court which ruled on an exparte application brought before the High Court by one James Onoja.

2. Enugu APC Crisis Deepens As Ex-gov Chime Expelled, Onyeama, Nnamani, Others Suspended

The aftermath of the recent general elections has deepened the crisis in the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leading to the expulsion of prominent members including a former governor, Sullivan Chime, ex-Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Eugene Odoh.

4. 2023 Polls: Obasanjo Seeks National Reconciliation

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has called for national reconciliation, stating that Nigeria has become deeply divided in recent times more than anybody can think of.

He said such a move is imperative to assuage the aggrieved and the youths for national peace and cohesion.

The former based his call on what happened during and after the just concluded 2023 general elections.

5. Ohanaeze To Petition Buhari Over Profiling of Igbos in Lagos     

The Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has resolved to petition President Muhammadu Buhari over the Igbo profiling in Lagos State before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

The group also said they would send a protest letter to the National Assembly and other relevant agencies to communicate their feelings over the attacks on Igbos in Lagos.

6. Interim Government ‘Unconstitutional’, Says Army

The Defence Headquarters has described the call for interim government by some persons in the country as unfortunate and unconstitutional.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major-General, Musa Danmadami, said this on Thursday in Abuja while addressing newsmen at the bi-weekly briefing on military operations across the country.

He said the constitution did not provide for an interim government and that those who are calling that are trying to be mischievous.

7. Polls: El-Rufai Applauds Wike For Supporting Tinubu’s Election

 Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, has commended Governor Nyesom Wike and the people of Rivers State for supporting the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as president-elect in the 2023 presidential election, despite belonging to the opposition PDP.

El-Rufai, who spoke on Thursday, when he performed the inauguration of Eneka-Igbo Etche Link Road, in Rivers, stated that though he and Governor Wike belong to different political parties, they shared a few things in common which include believing in one Nigeria.

8. Customs intercepts N1.4bn Expired Drugs in S/West Region

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU),  Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has impounded expired drugs worth over N1.422 billion in the South West region between September 2022 and March 2023.

The Acting Controller in charge of FOU Zone A, Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu, who addressed newsmen in Lagos, said the drugs were allegedly imported into the country from India.

9. Pension Fund investment In FG Securities Rises 16.5% To N9.9 trn

Pension fund investment in Federal Government debt instruments (securities) rose 16.5 per cent, year-on-year to N9.9 trillion in February caused by the high interest rate regime prompted by the inflation-fighting measures of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

10. Energy: NNPCL, Stakeholders Call for Major Investments to Grow Nigeria’s Gas Resources

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and other stakeholders in the petroleum industry have called for major investments to develop and commercialise the vast natural gas reserves available in the country.

Nigeria which has over 206 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves, plans to make it its energy transition fuel.

The Group CEO of NNPC Limited, Mr Mele Kyari, who spoke at the Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (OLEF), organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), said growing the gas industry had become a priority for the country, as it would play a crucial role as the economic enabler for the West African sub-region.
