President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, on Tuesday, during a live press conference announced that his refinery has started producing petrol for distribution across not just Nigeria but the entire Sub-Saharan Africa.

2. Dangote Refinery To Supply 25 million Litres Daily In Sept – NMDPRA
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has said Dangote Refinery will supply the Nigerian market with 25 million litres of petrol daily this September.
The downstream regulator added that the $20 billion refinery will subsequently increase the supply to 30 million litres daily from October this year. Read more
3. NLC Demands Immediate Reversal of Price Hike
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issue a statement demanding an immediate reversal of the fuel price hike announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The labur union in a statement signed by the president, Joe Ajero, said the petrol price hike has worsened the hardship faced by Nigerians.
NNPCL on Tuesday increased the pump price of petrol from N568 to N855, N897, depending on the location per litre.

4. PDP Governors Knock Wike Over ‘Fire’ Threat
Nigerian governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have decried the threat by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, that he would “put fire” in the states of governors supporting his predecessor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State made the threat during PDP state congress held in Port Harcourt on Saturday. He said nobody will be allowed to take over the party structure in the state from them while they are alive.
5. Tinubu Meets President Xi Jinping, Strengthen Nigeria-China Ties
Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, met with Chenese President, Xi Jinping, in a step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, both leaders announced elevation of Nigeria-China ties to that of a “comprehensive strategic partnership.” Read more.
6. Falana Faults Treason Charges Against #EndBadGovernance Protesters
Popular human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has condemned the increasing use of treason charges against protesters in the country.
Speaking at a two-day international anti-corruption and climate change conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Falana questioned the rationale behind charging citizens with treason simply for exercising their right to protest.
The Nigerian government on Monday, arraigned 10 leaders and organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest, which took place from 1st to 10th August 2024.
The protesters, who have been accused of treason, among other charges, appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
7. Obi Names Tanko As Coordinator of Obidient Movement
Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has appointed Dr Yunusa Tanko as the Interim National Coordinator of his Obidient Movement worldwide.
Obi, who made the announcement during an X Space engagement on Tuesday, 3 September, said the choice of Tanko was agreed upon after a consensus to zone the position to the North.
He added that Tanko’s track record and leadership qualities were also considered.
8. Hardship: Nigerian Govt Mulls Tax Exemption on Food, Transportation, Others
As part of measures to alleviate the economic hardship in Nigeria, the federal government through the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms has announced plans to remove taxes on food, house rents, and public transportation services in the country.
Chairman of the committee, Taiwo Oyedele, who made this known in an interview on channels television, explained that the policy is aimed at making basic necessities affordable to Nigerians.
9. Air Cargo Demand Increases By 13.6% – IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports that the total global air cargo tonne-kilometres increased by 13.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.
IATA also revealed that African airlines witnessed 6.2 per cent year-on-year demand growth for air cargo in July. This is considered the lowest of all regions and its lowest recorded figure in 2024.
10. Power Generation Rises To 5,313MW, First Time in 3 Years
Federal Ministry of Power has announced that Nigeria’s power generation increased to a three-year high of 5,313 megawatts on Monday.
The ministry in a statement issued by the media aide to the power minister, Bolaji Tunji, added that electricity distributors should ensure the distribution of the generated energy.
