This was confirmed in a statement released by Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, the extension “will enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives of this administration, including: the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service;  the implementation of the National Single Window Project; and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.”

The statement further said Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service and is confident that the extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

Prime Business Africa reports that President Tinubu appointed Adeniyi as Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service in 2023 shortly after assuming office.

Adeniyi, who succeeded Col. Hameed Ali, had served in various positions in the service, including as the Customs National Public Relations Officer.
