Tinubu Approves Military Officers’ Salary Increase, Pension Payments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an increase in salaries for Nigerian military personnel, in a major step towards enhancing their well-being.

He has also approved the release of funds for payment of retired military personnel’s unpaid pensions and benefits.

This was made known in a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Defence. According to the statement, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, thanked the president for the timely increase in the salary of military personnel, which included three months’ arrears, and the release of funds for pension payments and other unpaid entitlements for retired military personnel.

The minister confirmed that military members have started receiving alerts, indicating a major improvement in military morale.

He emphasised that resolving retiree pension arrears is still a top priority and commended Tinubu’s continuous dedication to current and retired military personnel.

Additionally, Matawalle praised Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy for his efforts to make these payments a reality.

While reminding the soldiers that the president is committed to helping them fight instability, the minister urged them to continue doing their jobs.

Matawalle reiterated the government’s resolve to assist the armed forces in defending the country, emphasising the vital role played by the Nigerian military in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other criminal activities.

The minister emphasised the administration’s willingness to support the military’s ability and resilience in addressing security concerns while assuring officers and staff of the Armed Forces of Nigeria of President Tinubu’s commitment to ending insecurity.
