Dealing With Long Distance Relationships

Regular relationships can be hard to handle, to say nothing of long-distance relationships.

While distance may not make the relationship hard, it makes it different. However, here are a few tips to make things work despite the distance;

Establish the right kind of communication

For some people, it is important to communicate with their partner at different times of the day, that is in the morning, during the day and at night. For others, communication can spiral without it being that fixed.

All this is to say that preferences differ and in order to not swap or neglect your partner, you both need to find a ground that is both comfortable and supportive.

Keep the excitement

A long-distance relationship should not just be about talking, try doing stuff together. Add excitement or spice to the relationship. This is where you’ll need to take advantage of technology. You can plan dinner dates or movie date with your partner. With the help of Webcam or video calls, those can be achieved. This way you get to witness basic things like watching each other eat or react to a movie. Getting each other intimate and thoughtful gifts is another way to keep things exciting.

Give assurance

Every relationship has it own issues but it tends to run high when in long distance. From jealousy, to doubts and sometimes these fear aren’t based on anything specific but are products of insecurities or being too comfortable. And as such, it is essential to share your feelings, assure and show appreciation for each other with each other.

Communicate your fears

Oftentimes, people find themselves stuck in a relationship that isn’t sure to end or stay and not happy with either. Honest and open conversation is key in every relationship, long-distance inclusive. Are you struggling with some aspect of the relationship? Are you considering taking a break? Is the emotional connection fading? Whatever the case may be, talking about your worries gives a chance of them being worked out.

Have an end date

Setting an end date makes it easier for both parties. Planning on time when you both can be in the same space or eventually live together gives you something to look forward to and the commitment to stay true.
It’s hard being apart from your romantic partner and the longer it lasts, the not-so-easy it gets. But with enough commitment, you can make it work.
