The Gambian Govt Partners UN, MOCDE To Promote Digital Innovation

The Gambia, in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy (MOCDE), unveiled its pioneering Digital Transformation Strategy and Digital ID Strategy after an intensive nine-month endeavor.

The validation of these strategies is scheduled for December 19th to 20th within The Gambia.

The announcement marks a stride towards modernization and inclusive development, representing the joint efforts of The Gambian government and UNECA.

These strategies aim to catapult The Gambia into an era of digital innovation, promising economic growth, societal inclusion, and government efficiency.

Speaking about the achievement, a representative from The Gambia expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This validation workshop signifies a pivotal moment for us, as it outlines our commitment to building an inclusive digital economy that benefits every citizen. Our goal is to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to digital services for all.”

Key aspects of the Digital Transformation Strategy include plans for an inclusive digital economy, robust e-government services, expanded digital infrastructure, and comprehensive capacity-building programs for digital literacy across society.

Regarding the Digital ID Strategy, officials emphasized its role in providing secure and efficient digital identification for citizens. “Our focus is on implementing cutting-edge technologies to safeguard citizen identities against fraud and unauthorized access,” explained a representative from The Gambia.

Furthermore, the strategy emphasizes creating an interoperable digital identification system, ensuring seamless integration across government and private sector services while adhering to international standards for privacy protection in digital identity management.
