In a candid response to the viral video of Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO) staff shedding tears over the dismissal of their Managing Director, Najeeb Abdulsalam, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), asserts that neither sentiment nor emotion will deter him from doing what is right.

Abdulsalam was one of the 21 heads of parastatals, agencies, and companies under the FCT Administration who faced termination by Minister Wike on Wednesday, 27 September 2023.

Addressing the absence of tangible results, he questioned, “That is why when I watch people on video, crying that somebody has been removed and that he has been doing well, but the question is if you have been doing well, where are the buses?”

Moreover, Minister Wike issued a stern reminder to political appointees, stating, “You are not a civil servant where you will say nobody is supposed to retire me because I am not up to the age of retirement. Even as a minister, I can be relieved of my position now. You don’t need to cry; some other people will come and all we pray for is, let us get the best.”

As controversy swirls around these dismissals, Minister Wike remains steadfast in his commitment to prioritize the interests of FCT residents and all Nigerians.
