Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” has broken records by garnering one billion streams on Spotify within a single week. This milestone was announced by Spotify on Wednesday, with a few days still remaining in the seven-day period.
This feat surpasses Swift’s previous record set by “Midnights,” her last all-new release in October 2022. Although Spotify didn’t disclose exact figures for “Midnights,” estimates based on publicly available data suggested it reached the 700,000s in weekly streams.

Swift’s “Tortured Poets” didn’t just stop at the billion-stream mark; it had already amassed over 300 million streams on its debut day alone. As we await the official sales and streaming figures, projections indicate that the album is poised to exceed 2 million album-equivalent units. If this holds true, it would mark the highest album sales since Adele’s “25” was released nine years ago.
In addition, “The Tortured Poets Department” has also claimed the title of the bestselling vinyl release in a single week in modern history. Luminate and Billboard reported sales of 700,000 LP copies within the album’s first three days, a figure unseen since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991.
On its debut day, the single “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone, set a new record as the most-streamed song in a single day on Spotify. Concurrently, “Tortured Poets” claimed the title for the service’s most-streamed album in a day. Swift herself broke records by accruing the most streams by an artist in a single day on Spotify.
