The scheduled international friendly match between nine-time African champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons and the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, has been postponed again.

Initially slated to hold on Saturday, the game was moved to Monday due to the late arrival of the Cameroon contingent after they experienced flight delays.

The Communication Department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Sunday evening in a release made available to Prime Business Africa said that following a request from the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) noted that the game will now hold on Tuesday, June 3 at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta.

The NFF release added that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have approved the request made by the Cameroonian contingent.

“Our friendly against Cameroon will now hold on Tuesday, June 3 at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, following a late request from FECAFOOT and CAF’s approval.

New date, same determination. Let’s get it,” the statement read.

The friendly game is part of both teams’ preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco from July 5-26.

The Super Falcons’ Abeokuta camp began last week Monday with a number of first team players set to take part in the tune-up game.

Nigeria finished in fourth place at the last WAFCON in 2022 and are hopeful of achieving a La Decima when they take on the rest of the African continent.

Morocco will also host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the Men’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

The Super Falcons camp have 25 players ahead of the friendly.

The team will be captained by Rasheedat Ajibade, as five-time Women’s African Footballer of the Year winner, Asisat Oshoala, is conspicuously missing from the party.

Other heavyweight women’s national teams like South Africa, Morocco, Algeria and Zambia are also involved in some friendlies in preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in little over a month’s time.
