Super Falcons Drawn To Face Sao Tome and Principe In 2024 WAFCON Qualifiers

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will begin their qualification campaign in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign with a first round fixtures against Sao Tome and Principe.

The draw for the qualification series which is expected to begin in October was made on Thursday.

The Nigeria women’s team will be looking to replicate the 10-0 beating of the team which the men’s team handed to their opponents in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

This is the first time that the Falcons will face Sao Tome & Principe in international women’s football.

They are meeting nine-time champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria in the opening round of the qualifiers which final competition hold in Morocco next year.

Incidentally, the Nigeria men’s 10-0 bashing of Sao Tome & Principe was obtained in Morocco.

Coincidentally, Morocco which has proven to be the ultimate competition destination in Africa also hosted the last edition last year.

That edition broke records both in fan attendance and television audiences, with the 2024 edition expected to be at an even larger scale.

Last year’s final was shown in over 85 countries globally – breaking new grounds for the event and the women’s game on the continent.

A total of 42 nations are involved in the journey to Morocco 2024 with 24 countries qualifying for the biannual showpiece.

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc.

He also undertook freelance writing gigs for some local and international organizations.

Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line.

Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
