Super Eagles new coach, Eric Chelle, who has already hit the ground running, says his result will speak for him in the course of leading the Nigerian team.

The former Malian Coach insinuated that he is not a man of many words but believes results speak better than words, noting that it is normal to have doubts over the ability of any coach.

“It’s normal that there is criticism. Wherever I go, in any club or team, there will be people who are my fans and others who will not. My results and the team’s results will speak for me”, he enthused.

Chelle who has interacted with players and technical crew of Super Eagles Team B preparing for the next edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) billed for August this year, revealed his plan to quickly establish connection with Nigeria’s top stars, among them Galataray forward , Victor Osimhen as well as African footballer of the year and Atalanta forward ,Ademola

“It is a dialogue that we will have to establish between us.

“I feel ready to lead this great team with great players. So, I’m part of the progression process; the players will help me progress and I will help them progress too.”

The former Mali coach, who sealed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, has a mandate to qualify the Eagles for the 2026 world cup in United States and Canada.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the last World cup in Qatar after failing to win two legged play-off in the qualifiers against Black stars of Ghana.

The two teams had played out a goalless draw in Kumasi handing Eagles an opportunity to consolidate in the second leg billed for the MKO Abiola Stadium in the second leg.

Unfortunately the second leg turned out to be a nightmare as the match ended 1-1 with Black stars qualifying on the away goal rule.

The resultant effect of the dismal outing was the destruction of facilities at the stadium by disappointed fans who had looked forward to seeing the team play at the world cup in Qatar.

Nigeria first qualified for the World Cup in 1994 and would have would have featured in eight uninterrupted editions of the world cup since then.

Unfortunately the team failed to qualify for the 2006 edition in Germany and the 2022 edition in Qatar. The Eagles have reached the round of 16 three times viz 1994 in USA, 1998 in France and 2014 in Brazil.

The team has scored 23 goals in six world cup appearances conceding 30 goals.
