In a ground-breaking episode of Succession, the long-standing mystery surrounding Logan Roy’s family is finally unveiled.

Season 4 Episode 9 takes viewers to Logan’s funeral, where Ewan Roy, Logan’s estranged older brother, surprises everyone by delivering his own eulogy, despite objections from the rest of the family, including Cousin Greg.

Ewan Roy stands out as the moral compass of the Roy family, never hesitating to call out Logan for who he truly is.

During his heartfelt eulogy, Ewan not only criticizes Logan but also sheds light on a lingering question about their father’s background.

The enigmatic Rose Roy was briefly mentioned in Season 2’s episode “Dundee,” which delves into Logan’s childhood. In an attempt to create a rift between Logan and potential Waystar CEO Rhea Jarrell, Kendall prompts Rhea to pay tribute to Rose, causing immediate distress to Logan.

Until now, little was known about Rose, except for the fact that she died under unaddressed circumstances and that Logan blamed himself for her demise.

Many assumed that her death was a result of Logan’s explosive anger and mistreatment of his family. However, Ewan reveals a far more tragic truth during his eulogy, painting a poignant picture of their shared past.

Ewan recounts their experience during World War II when he and Logan were evacuated from Dundee, Scotland for their safety.

Tragically, their ship broke down, leaving them stranded in the ocean without the convoy. Ewan describes the ordeal, recalling how they were warned that making any sound would alert enemy submarines to their presence. The two young boys spent three nights and two days in silence, communicating only through their eyes.

Eventually, the brothers found refuge in Quebec, Canada, under the care of their uncle, Noah. It was revealed earlier in Succession that Noah was an abusive and demanding figure, and Logan bore physical scars as evidence of the abuse he endured.

However, Ewan discloses that Logan was sent away to a better school due to their uncle and aunt’s wealth. Logan despised the experience and eventually fell ill with polio. Ewan shares that Logan believed he brought the illness back with him, leading to the death of their baby sister, Rose.

Ewan questions the truth of this belief but emphasizes that their aunt and uncle never dispelled Logan’s guilt, allowing it to persist within him.

The revelation of Rose’s fate adds a new layer of complexity to Logan’s character and further explores the traumatic events that shaped him. It also highlights the dysfunctional dynamics within the Roy family and the long-lasting impact of their troubled past.

As Succession continues to unravel the intricate web of family secrets and power struggles, the reveal of Logan’s sister provides a poignant moment of reflection, deepening our understanding of the characters and their motivations.
