Stock Traders Earn N87.95 billion Despite Losses In Transcorp, Others

Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the stock market authority, reported that the stock market capitalisation jumped to N28.63 trillion on Wednesday, 17 May.

It grew by 0.31 or N87.95 billion, having closed trading the day before at N28.54 trillion market capitalisation.

The All-Share Index pocketed 161.53 basis points to rise from 52,419.33 ASI to 52,580.86 ASI. 

By the close of trading on Wednesday, over 680.79 million shares had exchanged investors’ hands in 6,666 deals, valued at N7.89 billion. 

This fell short of the 576.85 million traded on Tuesday in 6,143 deals, worth N6.78 billion. 

Top five gainers 

  • MRS’ share appreciated by N3.35kobo to rise from N33.75kobo to N37.10kobo per share.         
  • Nigerian Breweries grew by N3.40kobo, up from N35.30kobo to N38.70kobo per share.         
  • Cornerstone ended trading with N0.81kobo from N0.74kobo per share, rising by 9.46 per cent.       
  • FTN Cocoa gained 8.82 per cent to end trading at N0.37kobo, having opened with N0.34kobo per share.         
  • Royal Exchange’s stock was up by 8.33 per cent, closing at N0.52kobo from N0.48kobo per share.           

Top five losers 

  • Consolidated Hallmark Insurance depreciated by 7.69 per cent, dwindling from N0.65kobo to N0.60kobo per share.            
  • Sovereign Insurance also fell by 6.52 per cent to end trading at N0.43kobo, after opening at N0.46kobo per share.            
  • Transcorp followed the same path, losing N0.16kobo after trading hours, to sell at N2.90kobo from N3.06 per share.            
  • Caverton reported a decline of 4.76 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N1.05 to end trading at N1 per share.            
  • Wapic share depreciated to N0.43kobo from N0.45kobo, after losing 4.44 per cent during trading hours. 

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange

  • Fidelity Bank reported 254.05 million shares, valued at N1.41 billion, were traded on its floor.          
  • Access Corp recorded 112.82 million shares valued at N1.13 billion.           
  • Transcorp saw investors trade 63.39 million of its shares valued at N185.59 million. 
  • GTCO recorded 59.91 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N1.56 billion.            
  • Zenith Bank reported 31.69 million shares, valued at N794.38 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
