How Loss Of Over $5 Trillion In U.S. Stock Exchange Affects Nigeria

After five days of trading on the Nigerian stock exchange, the bourse reported that investors traded over 598.817 million shares, worth N14.234 billion, in 15,859 deals this week.

This figure contrasts with the 938.020 million shares worth N16.701 billion which were traded  in 15,700 deals last week.

Top three sectors – stock

The Financial Services Industry reported that investors exchanged 398.264 million shares in 8,247 deals valued at N2.219 billion to top the best performing sector.

The Conglomerates Industry recorded over 37.514 million shares worth N49.503 million exchanged investors hands in 393 deals.

The third place was the ICT Industry, with a turnover of 30.708 million shares worth N8.383 billion in 1,218 deals.

Top three equities

By measure of volume, the top three equities are Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Sterling Bank Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc, accounting for 181.347million shares worth N248.920 million, traded in 854 deals.

Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Sterling Bank Plc and Fidelity Bank accounted for 30.28% and 1.75% of the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Stock: Top five gainers

RT Briscoe gained 17.86 percent, after its stock price appreciated from N0.28kobo to N0.33kobo per share. 

BUA Cement reported an uptick of N8, as its share rose from N62 to N70 per share. 

FTN Cocoa share went up by 11.11 percent, rising to N0.30kobo from N0.27kobo per share. 

Japaul Gold saw its share price gain N10.71kobo, increasing to N0.31kobo from N0.28kobo per share. 

Sunu Assurances Nigeria recorded an appreciation of 9.37 percent, after the share went from N0.32kobo to N0.35kobo per share

Top five losers

NEM Insurance share depreciated by N0.67kobo, dwindling from N4.42kobo to N3.75kobo per share. 

Honeywell Flour share dropped in value by N0.27kobo, to settle at N2.13kobo from N2.40kobo per share. 

Unilever followed the same path, losing N1.25kobo after trading hours, to sell at N10.75kobo from N12 per share. 

Dangote Cement reported a decline of N24.50kobo in its share, depreciating from N245 to N220.50kobo per share. 

Pharma Deko share lost N0.20kobo from previous day’s N2.05, dropping to N1.85kobo per share.
