School of Politics, Policy and Governance (SPPG), is set to graduate its 2021 pioneer class of 150 students in a convocation event scheduled to hold between 20 and 27 January 2022.

It is a seven-month programme with a curriculum focused on courses that are analytically and empirically relevant to solving 21st Africa’s complex development problems.

SPPG is an unconventional school that is poised to solve Africa’s development challenge which rests squarely on political leadership, through producing a new generation of political leaders who would listen and serve the citizens thereby providing quality leadership across the continent.

The school is one of the three pillars of the FixPolitics Initiative, a non-profit management organisation spearheading a citizens-led movement to structurally change politics in Nigeria, Africa, and the rest of the world for better output. In other words, it is built on the mission of FixPolitics.

According to Dr Oby Ezekwesili, a public policy analyst and founder of FixPolitics, and also a faculty member of SPPG, the school was a well-thought-out initiative to address leadership challenges in Africa through building a sound intellectual foundation on politics for future political leaders who will be ready to serve the interest of the citizens who know their rights.

She said, “We are highly excited at the progress we have begun making in our vision of producing a remarkably different type of public leaders for our country and the continent.”

According to a statement by the school, the next class of 2022 has resumed with 180 students who will graduate in August.

The school is also making arrangements to expand its educational services to six more African countries this year, as they establish centres in Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The school whose mandate is to “build a massive base and pipeline of a new and disruptive thinking Political Class,” has the target of training over 5,000 “disruptive political leaders” with sound intellectual and moral base in the next five years.

Commenting on the programme, the Chief Executive Officer, SPPG, Alero Ayida-Otobo wrote, “The program at the School of Politics, Policy and Governance is global and dynamic, with the pivotal goal of reshaping the political landscape in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

“Our singular mission is to offer future leaders a superior and supportive environment to learn the art and science of governance. At the SPPG, this is a rich process in which we are deeply invested.”

Having a blend of Nigeria and global context, the programme is currently offered virtually on the Hybrid Learning Environment (HLE), with the of aim raising political leaders with value-driven character, unquenchable competence, undeniable capacity and passion for the country and welfare of the citizens.
