The Nigeria Football Federation could head on a collision course with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development over the choice of a new Super Eagles head coach.

The technical crew of the national team was relieved of their duties following the failure to qualify the Nigeria for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and with the qualifiers to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast starting in June 2022 now the focus of attention for all parties concerned, the issue of a new helmsman was discussed between the NFF and the Ministry on Monday.

The NFF Executive board is then expected to sit today (5 April 2022) with the coaching situation on the agenda.

The sports minister Sunday Dare is said to prefer the hiring of an indigenous coach while the NFF are keen to bring onboard a foreign coach after the Austin Eguavoen-led crew fell short of their deliverables.

Prime Business Africa yesterday (Monday) published a feature on the three coaches that could be good fits for the Super Eagles albeit the thorny issue of paying huge salaries could hamper the talks of hiring a truly world class manager for the Super Eagles.

Former Super Eagles captain cum head coach Sunday Oliseh is reportedly the top choice of the sports ministry for the job.
