Buhari died on Sunday afternoon in a hospital in London, according to a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu.

Sani prayed that Allah may forgive his soul and grant him eternal rest.

The former lawmaker stressed the need for people to desist from passing negative remarks about the dead. He asserted that those who are living are on the trials of life, awaiting the final ruling of their destiny, and should not judge the dead.

“Speak not ill of the dead. We are all mortals moving on the queue of our fate. A living man is still on the trials of life, awaiting the ruling of his destiny, and cannot judge the dead,” Sani wrote on his X handle.

His admonition came as some Nigerians took to social media on Sunday evening after news of Buhari’s death broke and made negative remarks about the ex-president.

Their comments were based on issues that occurred during Buhari’s eight-year tenure as president, ranging from insecurity across the country, economic challenges to political events, with regard to his approach in handling them.
