Southampton Sacks Manager, Jones, After Three Months In Charge

Southampton on Sunday morning announced the sacking of manager, Nathan Jones, following the 2-1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers Saturday evening.

The defeat at Saint Mary’s Stadium was the ninth in 11 games for the club that are currently bottom of the table with 15 points from 22 matches.

Jones was only in charge of the Saints for three months.

A statement on the club’s website Sunday morning notes that the First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of the team ahead of their next league fixture against Chelsea next weekend.

“Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones.

“First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.

“First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.

The Nigerian duo of Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu were on action for the team on Saturday.

While Onuachu started from kick off and made way in the 74th minute when replaced by Che Adams, Aribo, who has scored two goals this season from 19 league matches came off the bench in place of Carlos Alcaraz.

Anglo-Nigerian youngster, Sam Edozie was also in action in the game albeit for only 10 minutes as he entered the fray from the substitute bench in the 80th minute for James Bree.
