NGX: Market Sees Bearish Turn In 2024 As ASI Plunges By 1.4%

Shares Of Airtel Africa, Flour Mill Slump, Cost Stock Market Investors N553.70 billion

The Nigerian stock market capitalisation closed at N28.88 trillion, depreciating from N29.43 trillion on Wednesday, 5 April 2023. This means the bourse dipped in value by N553.70 billion.

It followed the decline in the All-Share Index which closed down at 53,018.97 ASI after shedding 1,016.42 basis points from 54,035.39 ASI reported on Tuesday. 

Also, reports from the stock market disclosed that 197.33 million shares, worth N2.67 billion, were traded by investors in 3,506 deals on Wednesday, falling short of the 296.73 million shares exchanged in 4,590 deals the day before, valued at N3.06 billion. 

Top five gainers 

  • Wapic share appreciated by 7.50 per cent to rise from N0.40kobo to N0.43kobo per share.  
  • Mutual Benefit grew by 6.25 per cent, up from N0.32kobo to N0.34kobo per share.  
  • CWG ended trading with N1 from N0.95kobo per share, rising by 5.26 per cent.  
  • Eterna gained N0.25kobo to end trading at N5.85kobo, having opened with N5.60kobo per share.  
  • Cutix’s stock was up by 3.60 per cent, closing at N2.30kobo from N2.22kobo per share. 

Top five losers  

  • Airtel Africa depreciated by N147.90kobo, dwindling from N1479 to N1331.10kobo per share.  
  • Ikeja Hotel also fell by N0.13kobo to end trading at N1.19kobo, after opening with N1.32kobo per share.  
  • Multiverse followed the same path losing N0.28kobo after trading hours, to sell at N2.64kobo from N2.92kobo per share.  
  • Royal Exchange reported a decline of 9.33 per cent from the previous day’s share price of N0.75kobo to end trading at N0.68kobo per share.  
  • Flour Mill’s share depreciated to N29.50kobo from N31, after losing N1.50kobo during trading hours.  

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • UBA reported 64.20 million shares, valued at N536.65 million, were traded on its floor.
  • Transcorp recorded 32.02 million shares valued at N44.30 million. 
  • Zenith Bank saw investors trade 15.85 million of its shares valued at N402.64 million. 
  • Oando recorded 9.95 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N55.92 million.  
  • Mutual Benefit reported 7.29 million shares, valued at N2.41 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
