‘I Am Not An Afrobeat Artiste’- Wizkid

In a surprising turn of events, the globally acclaimed music sensation, Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has disclosed his intention to step away from the music scene for a substantial period.

Through a series of Instagram posts on a recent Sunday, the ‘Essence’ artist revealed his plan to take a sabbatical that could extend for four to five years. During this time, he hinted at the possibility of venturing into alternative pursuits like football or golf.

He wrote, “I’ll be back in four years; you guys can enjoy my wealth for a bit. Or maybe five years, and I might even delve into sports – playing football or maybe even starting to play golf. FIFA or wrestling, perhaps! You all are insane! Everyone’s gone crazy.”

Amid his light-hearted remarks, Wizkid took a moment to express genuine concern for his fans, sharing, “On some serious stuff, I hope you all are well, both in body and spirit. Take some time to savour moments with your loved ones.”

This isn’t the first instance of Wizkid declaring a break from music. In 2019, the artist announced a hiatus with a simple yet effective “Gone till March! Thank you” tweet via his X account.
