Security agencies in Kebbi State have launched a coordinated rescue mission involving the police, military, and local vigilantes to secure the release of the kidnapped Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo.
The Kebbi State Police Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the lawmaker was abducted on Friday night, October 31, 2025, at about 8:20 p.m., when armed bandits stormed Bagudo town in Bagudo Local Government Area, firing sporadically and taking him away shortly after he observed the Isha’i prayers.
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, swiftly mobilized a combined team of police tactical operatives, military personnel, and local vigilantes to pursue the attackers,” the statement said.

“The joint operation is currently combing nearby forests and suspected hideouts to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible.”
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s determination to protect lives and property, urging residents to stay calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens. We appeal to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies,” Sani said.
A senior government official confirmed that the state authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working alongside the military and police command to ensure a swift resolution.
The attackers, believed to be armed bandits, have in recent months targeted several rural communities across the northwest, heightening concerns over the region’s deteriorating security situation.
The abduction of a top state legislator marks a serious escalation in the ongoing wave of kidnappings and armed violence.
As of press time, no group has claimed responsibility, and there has been no official report of contact with the kidnappers or any ransom demand.
Search operations remain ongoing in forested areas bordering Bagudo and neighboring local government areas.
