Sanwo-Olu Charges Maritime Stakeholders To Harness Waterways Potentials

GOVERNOR Of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged stakeholders of the maritime sector to harness the potentials of the maritime industry and ensure security of the waterways.

The charge was given by the Director-General of the Lagos State Waterways, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who represented the governor at the Nigerian International Maritime Summit, which held at the Oriental hotels on 5th of October 2021, with the theme: “Becoming A Regional Maritime Superpower ”

Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of the governor, Mr Emmanuel noted that for Nigeria to consolidate her position as a maritime hub for the west and central Africa,  harnessing her maritime resources and ensuring safety and security within her territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea.

The Governor said this was strategic to our economic calculations, while also stating that criminal activities must not be allowed to continue.

Lagos state has taken advantage of its coastal environments in boosting socio-economic activities and attracting investors. We are determined to create the necessary environment not only for the maritime industry but also for the optimum maximization of all economic opportunities in sustaining national development.

In the words of the governor,  “I have no doubt that these industry experts will contribute to the sustainable development of the Nigerian Maritime Sector through the robust discussions that will be done today.”

Rounding off, he said the Lagos state will continue to partner with the Federal government,  the ministry of transport,  NIMASA and all other stakeholders towards moving the nation forward.
