Remembering Previous Big Brother Naija Editions As Titans Debuts

The much awaited debut of Big Brother Titans has begun with the launch of the reality show on Sunday.

This special edition of the Big Brother show will feature housemates exclusively from Nigeria and South Africa for the first time since 2003.

The Nigerian version of the show was renamed Big Brother Naija after the inaugural edition in 2006 was called Big Brother Nigeria.

In this piece, Prime Business Africa brings you up to speed on the past editions of Big Brother Naija.

 

Big Brother Nigeria 2006

Formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria, the show made its debut in 2006.

It was held from 5 March to 4 June. It lasted for 92 days and was won by Katung Aduwak, a Kaduna State-born broadcaster and producer.

There were only 14 housemates in the maiden edition hosted by the experienced and dynamic duo of Olisa Adibua and Mitchelle Dede.

 

Big Brother Naija 2017

The reality show was on a hiatus for 11 years and made a return in 2017 with the ‘See Gobe’ edition held between 22 January and 9 April.

The host of this edition (until present) is a lawyer turned media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, who was one of the housemates in the first edition.

 

Big Brother Naija 2018

The ‘Double Wahala’ season 3 edition was held in 2018 with an aspiring pilot, Miracle Igbokwe the winner, beating off the challenge of runners up, Ceecee in an intense competition. It was held between 28 January and 22 April 2018.

Big Brother Naija 2019

For the first time in the history of the show, it began in June, the following year, 2019.

There were 21 housemates that battled in the Pepper Dem (gang) edition of 2019. This season was the longest as it lasted for 99 days.

The season was won by Mercy Eke, a video vixen and entrepreneur. She became the first lady to win the reality show (Nigerian version of the franchise).

 

Big Brother Naija 2020

Music act, Olamilekan ‘Laycon’ Agbeleshe, was crowned the winner of the Lockdown edition, the fifth instalment of the show, which was held in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

It was held between 19 July and 28 September.

 

Big Brother Naija 2021

The sixth edition of the reality show in 2021 was won by businessman and onetime barber, Hazel Oyeye, popularly known as ‘Whitemoney’ in the house and now on the media.

The show lasted for 72 days with 26 housemates taking part in the reality show between 24 and 25 July and 3 October.

Big Brother 2022

The Level Up edition of the show was held in 2022.

The launch dates were 24 and 25 July and ended on 2 October and was won by Ijeoma Josephina, simply known as ‘Phyna’ in the house.

Phyna became the second lady to win the reality show.

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc.

In October 2004, Okosi joined Complete Communications Limited, publishers of Complete Sports newspaper and Complete Football magazine as a reporter and later script writer for the Complete Sports studio.

He worked there for 13 years until October 2017.

Okosi also worked various times as Correspondent, Content creator and Editor at Sports Market International Magazine, Opera News, All Nigeria Soccer Media and Iconic Media Watch.

He also undertook freelance writing gigs for some local and international organizations.

Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line.

Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
