Qatar World Cup Win: Lionel Messi’s Face On Argentina Currency

The Central Bank of Argentina is planning to add Lionel Messi’s face on the country’s currency after he led the Argentine team to their 2022 World Cup triumph in Qatar.

Prime Business Africa had reported that Messi scored twice to help Argentina draw France 3-3 in the final, before they went on to win the match after a penalty shootout.

Argentina denied the attempt by Kylian Mbappe and France to win the World Cup back to back, having won the World Cup in France, defeating Croatia in the final.

According to a report by local newspaper El Financiero, Messi’s face will appear on one side of the 1,000 peso note, while the team’s nickname ‘La Scaloneta’ will be inscribed on the other side.

Apart from his role in winning the World Cup after 32 years, it was gathered that  Argentina’s central bank is also honouring Messi because his jersey number is 10, a very symbolic number for the currency.

This is the second time Argentina will be celebrating their World Cup triumph with the nation’s currency, having commended the winning team of 1978 with commemorative coins.
