PROWIBO Begins 5-Day Training Program For Students, Staff At UNILAG On Social Entrepreneurship, Finance, Others.

Professors Without Borders (PROWIBO), a non-profit organisation, dedicated to addressing the global education gap, has commenced a 5-day training programme for students and members of staff of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The programme, scheduled from July 15th to 19th 2024, aims to equip undergraduate students and staff with essential skills in financial literacy, social entrepreneurship, and finance, specifically tailored for Africa.

Established in 2016, PROWIBO’s mission is to provide supplementary education to marginalised communities worldwide.

In his opening remarks at the training’s inauguration, Professor Titus Ayodele, PROWIBO’s Country Coordinator for Nigeria, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host the program and encouraged participants to fully engage with the training.

“We are committed to inspiring students and staff, and we believe this programme will be a game-changer,” he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folashade Ogunsola, also commended PROWIBO’s efforts.

She emphasized the importance of adaptive learning and a continuous drive for knowledge in today’s fast-changing world.

“We must produce lifelong learners who can add value and create wealth. This training is not a regular style of training; you are being trained to be problem solvers. We will sign a new agreement with PROWIBO to extend the training or continue the program in various faculties soon,” She said.

In an interview, Professor Akinloye Aaron, PROWIBO’s Program Coordinator for Nigeria, highlighted the importance of financial literacy, critical thinking, and decision-making in today’s fast-paced world.

“The focus of the training is to inspire, empower, and educate students. We have received feedback from participants who have secured opportunities in the US, UK, and Michigan.

We believe this programme will be an eye-opener for many more,” he remarked.

One of the facilitators, Bob Eckhart, a Fulbright Scholar and specialist at Minsk State Linguistic University, Belarus, expressed his enthusiasm for working with the students.

“The programme has been great so far, and I’m impressed with the intelligent students here at UNILAG. PROWIBO provides a unique opportunity for local and international experts to inspire students and staff,” he said.

Yetunde Odunsi, a facilitator specialising in Financial Literacy, emphasised the importance of equipping participants with skills to handle financial challenges. “The workshop has been engaging, and I’m confident that participants will leave with valuable skills,” she noted.

Now in its third year, the PROWIBO training program has consistently received positive feedback from past participants.

Organisers are confident that this year’s edition will be equally impactful, with a lineup of expert facilitators and an interactive and inspiring approach designed to empower the students and staff at the University of Lagos.
