Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu has waded into the nationwide protest and lamentations from Nigerians over the prevailing economic crisis in the country and has asked for more time as the Federal Government seeks to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are poised for a nationwide protest but there have been pockets of protests in parts of the country already and Audu insists that it will take some planning for the government to solve the problems facing Nigerians.

“It’s expected that we go through these challenges now. It will cost us a bit of challenge but we have to go through it because either way it wasn’t that we had it all good before this decision of subsidy was announced,” Audu noted.

“However we take solace that we have made the right decision. Mr President himself expressed it like 11 or 12 years ago when he was in the opposition.

When asked if the subsidy is back to stay, Audu added:

“Let’s take it from when Mr President announced the subsidy at his inauguration at the Eagles Square. When those interventions were announced, he said that the government is monitoring situations and would intervene when necessary.

“As much as we want these things to be regulated, we understand the impact it has on Nigerians. Nobody is denying the effect on Nigerians.

“It is the responsibility of the government at whatever time to ensure that while we are doing the right thing, we don’t end up removing the market while we are trying to stabilise it,” the special assistant to the country’s leader concluded.
