Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Escape Car Chase In New York

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle found themselves in a harrowing car chase through the streets of New York City on Tuesday night. Despite the intensity of the pursuit, no accidents or injuries occurred.

According to a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the incident unfolded after their attendance at a Ms. Foundation gala alongside Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.

Lasting several hours and involving multiple drivers, the spokesperson revealed that the couple and Ms. Ragland were chased by an aggressive ring of paparazzi.

The relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in several close calls with other vehicles, pedestrians, and even two NYPD officers, as confirmed by the spokesperson.

The spokesperson emphasized that the dissemination of the images captured during this dangerous chase encourages a highly intrusive and perilous practice.

The NYPD collaborated with the Sussexes’ private security team on that fateful night, as Julian Phillips, the NYPD’s deputy commissioner of public information, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite the challenges posed by numerous photographers, the Duke and Duchess arrived safely at their destination, with no reported accidents, summonses, injuries, or arrests.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Sukhcharn Singh, a New York taxi driver, shared his experience witnessing the incident unfold, highlighting the chaos caused by the relentless pursuit.

The Ms. Foundation 2023 Women of Vision Awards, where Meghan Markle was honoured for her efforts in empowering women, marked the couple’s first public appearance since the coronation of King Charles III, which Prince Harry attended alone.

Prince Harry has long voiced concerns about the press’s treatment of him and his wife, particularly in the context of U.K. tabloids.

He has drawn parallels between their behaviour and the media’s treatment of his late mother, Princess Diana. In the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan,” he reflected on the press’s desire to exploit his family’s trauma and their determination to control the narrative.

Driven by the need to protect his family, especially after the tragic events surrounding his mother’s life, Prince Harry made difficult decisions, fully aware that they would face criticism from some quarters. However, his primary goal remained safeguarding his loved ones from history repeating itself.
