President Muhammadu Buhari has made the appointment of Ahmed Halilu, the acting Managing Director of Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC), permanent.

Halilu, who happens to be the elder brother of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, had been the acting MD of Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, since Abbas Masanawa resigned from the position in May.

Recall that President Buhari had instructed his political appointees to resign from their position if they intend to contest for an elective office in the coming 2023 election on or before May 16, 2022. This led to Masanawa submitting his resignation.

He joined the gubernatorial race in Katsina State, but lost the governorship primaries to former Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Director-General, Dikko Radda.

Halilu will now remain in the office for three more years after President Buhari permanent his appointment, following the backing he reportedly received from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company is responsible for the printing of Nigeria’s currency, Naira, and the firm is chaired by the governor of the central bank.

Prior to his time in the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, Halilu’s 23 years banking career had spanned across African International Bank Limited (AIB) and Zenith Bank Plc.

He is a member of Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and holds several certificates from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, including Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture B. (Agric), Masters in Business Administration, and a Masters in International Affairs & Diplomacy.
