The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to members publicly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027, branding such actions as anti-party behavior that imperil party unity and violate its constitution.
In an official statement, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba cited Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution, which prohibits members from “aligning with other parties or groups to undermine the PDP or its elected government.” The statement warned that any further breaches will attract heavier sanctions under Section 59(1).

The PDP’s rebuke is seen as an effort to preserve internal cohesion and deter further defections at a critical pre-election moment. Political analysts warn that unchecked endorsements could trigger deep fractures, erode the opposition’s strength, and undermine electoral preparedness. The party’s upcoming national convention in November 2025 in Ibadan adds urgency to demands for loyalty and discipline.
Observers are watching closely to see if the PDP will follow through on its threat with formal disciplinary actions such as suspensions or, Cexpulsions, and whether it can reconcile with high-profile supporters of Tinubu while maintaining unity. Some believe this episode could trigger realignments ahead of the 2027 elections as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to shift.
