The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cautioned Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, against unilateral action in implementing the recent peace agreement signed to resolve the political crisis in the state.

The NWC, reacting to Fubara’s announcement of intent to execute the agreement without the party’s input, reiterated the constitutional significance of the matter.

Timothy Osadolor, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the PDP, emphasized the core constitutional nature of the dispute in a conversation with The PUNCH. He stated, “The issues at stake that President Bola Tinubu bothered himself with are bigger than him. They are also bigger than the governor because they are constitutional issues.”

Osadolor highlighted the crucial constitutional matter regarding the seats of defected lawmakers and stressed that the control of these seats is not at the discretion of any individual, including President Tinubu.

He underlined the party’s ownership of votes and its pursuit of justice in court, asserting, “The votes belong to the PDP, not to Fubara or the Villa.”

Moreover, Osadolor outlined the specific boundaries of the governor’s role in the context, stating, “The one within the governor’s purview is to pay salaries and allowances of the lawmakers to the date their seats become vacant. I am sure the governor knows his limit.”

This warning from the PDP NWC sheds light on the complexities surrounding the political crisis in Rivers State and underscores the party’s commitment to addressing the matter within the constitutional framework, irrespective of peace talks initiated by President Tinubu.
