PDP House Of Reps Candidate Concedes To Labour Party

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Chief Vita Abba, may have conceded defeat to the Labour Party candidate, Hon. Chidi Mark Obetta, at the just-concluded National Assembly elections.

Sources close to Chief Vita Abba confirmed that the PDP stalwart and former Chairman of the party in the state, had called Hon. Obetta early Sunday morning to accept defeat, even before the poll was called.

Sensing that he had no chance of catching up with Hon. Obetta following early results from Saturday’s elections, the source said close associates of the Ede-Oballa-born politician advised him to throw in the towel.

Prime Business Africa could not reach the PDP candidate on his mobile telephone line, but Obetta in telephone discussion with our correspondent on Sunday afternoon confirmed that  Abba did call to congratulate him.

One of the sources who pleaded anonymity said: “We advised him to concede. We discovered that there was no way he could catch up with Obetta. The results were too obvious that our people have chosen Obetta.”

He added: “Even going to court to challenge the election is out of the question because we know the elections were free and fair. So we asked him to concede. Some of us have also called Obetta to congratulate him.”

Another source disclosed that Chief Abba placed the call early in the morning. “I can tell you that he has pledged to support Hon. Chidi Obetta and work with him to build Nsukka and Igbo-Eze Federal Constituency. Chidi Obetta is our duly elected representative.”

He added: “Our Governor created this mess for us in PDP. We know. And he’s losing even worse than Vita Abba. We tried our best but our people have spoken. We will work with Obetta. I think Ugwuanyi’s time is coming to an end.”
