PDP Condemns President Tinubu's New Year Address As A "Deceitful Charade"

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s New Year speech, labeling it a “harvest of deceit, false claims, and empty promises.”

In a scathing response, the PDP‘s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated that Tinubu’s address failed to address crucial national issues such as insecurity, infrastructure decay, economic challenges, and unemployment.

“Nigerians were dismayed as President Tinubu employed rhetoric and failed to address the critical issues of insecurity, decayed infrastructure, comatose manufacturing, and productive sectors; crushing 28% inflation rate, continuing plunge of the Naira, alarming unemployment, excruciating poverty, and economic hardship occasioned by the reckless, ill-advised and insensitive policies and programmes of his administration,” the PDP publicity scribe remarked.

Furthermore, the PDP accused Tinubu’s administration of allegedly subjecting Nigerians to economic hardship, citing actions such as the significant increase in fuel prices and devaluation of the Naira.

They called for an account of the nation’s earnings, including those from the fuel subsidy removal, amid allegations of diversion to private interests.

The PDP urged the National Assembly to step up its oversight role to hold the Executive accountable for the nation’s finances.

According to the party, Tinubu’s speech failed to provide a clear plan to address the country’s challenges and fell short of the apology Nigerians expected.
