Over N421.07 billion Lost By Investors In MTN Nigeria, Transcorp Hotels, Others

With over N421.07 billion lost on Monday, 17 April 2023, the Nigerian stock market capitalisation dwindled from N28.26 trillion reported on Friday, 14 April, to N27.84 trillion.

The All-Share Index shrank by 773 basis points, dropping from 51,893.94 ASI to 51,120.94 ASI.

At the end of trading on Monday, 226.59 billion shares exchanged investors’ hands in 4,373 deals, valued at N1.56 billion.

Last week Friday, investors had exchanged 541.98 million shares, worth N2.36 billion, in 3,766 deals. 

Top five gainers

  • Ikeja Hotel’s share appreciated by N0.11kobo to rise from N1.16kobo to N1.27kobo per share.  
  • Transcorp grew by N0.16kobo, up from N1.69kobo to N1.85kobo per share.  
  • Consolidated Hallmark Insurance ended trading with N0.62kobo from N0.0.57kobo per share, rising by 8.77 per cent.
  • NGX Group gained N2 to end trading at N26.50kobo, having opened with N24.50kobo per share.  
  • Jaiz Bank’s stock was up by 5.68 per cent, closing at N0.93kobo from N0.88kobo per share.    

Top five losers

  • Champion depreciated by N0.49kobo, dwindling from N4.93kobo to N4.44kobo per share.     
  • International Energy Insurance also fell by 6.98 per cent to end trading at N1.20kobo, after opening with N1.29kobo per share.     
  • MTN Nigeria followed the same path losing N16 after trading hours, to sell at N224 from N240 per share.     
  • Transcorp Hotels reported a decline of N0.40kobo from the previous day’s share price of N6.90kobo to end trading at N6.50kobo per share.     
  • Africa Prudential share depreciated to N5.20kobo from N5.50kobo, after losing N0.30kobo during trading hours.     

Top five trading equities in the stock exchange 

  • Transcorp reported 63.44 million shares, valued at N117.36 million, were traded on its floor.   
  • Fidelity Bank recorded 41.30 million shares valued at N210.89 million.    
  • Sterling Bank saw investors trade 22.78 million of its shares valued at N33.24 million.    
  • Zenith Bank recorded 13.36 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N292.63 million.     
  • UBA reported 10.28 million shares, valued at N80.68 million, exchanged investors’ hands.
