Super Falcons striker and six-time African Footballer of The Year award winner, Asisat Oshoala will work with a new head coach following the decision of  current Barcelona Femini coach Jonatan Giraldez not to renew his contract with the Spanish club.

Giraldez won the Champions League, two Spanish league titles, the Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups as coach of the club.

Giraldez took charge of the team as substantive coach in July 2021 after working as assistant coach to Lluis Cortes from 2019.

“I informed the club I don’t intend to renew my contract,” Giraldez revealed on Monday.

“I want to leave them enough time to sort things out and find the best possible future.”

The 32-year-old coach further said: “I have a magnificent relationship with the players and staff and everyone else at the club.

“I am hoping that my fondest memory of my time here has yet to come later this season. I hope these last few months are the best of all. We want to win every title.”

The Barcelona women are currently atop the La Liga women’s league on 36 points after 12 games.

Oshoala’s team are closely followed by perennial rivals, Real Madrid on 27 points. Barcelona also lead their Champions League group after three wins.

Oshoala has won four league titles, three Spanish Cup, three Spanish Super Cup and two Women’s Champions League.
