Oshoala Revels In Champions League Battles Against Tough Opponents

The 2022 /2023 UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage draws was held on Monday with interesting match ups and Nigeria striker Asisat Oshoala is poised to shine on the big stage once again after previous success stories in the ‘competition for champions’ reports Prime Business Africa.

French side Olympique Lyonnais are the current champions of the UEFA Women’s Champions League after they beat Barcelona 3-1 in the final last May.

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala scored Barcelona’s only goal in that defeat and is already looking forward to the beginning of the matches in the group stages this season.

African Footballer of The Year winner in July Oshoala, spoke to CNN Sport on the expectations of her club ahead of the competition.

“It’s a competition for champions. We are ready for the Championship. I will love to meet them again. I love to play against PSG, Bayern, Benfica. We are ready,” the former Arsenal and Liverpool Ladies striker quipped.

Oshoala’s Barcelona have a relatively easy draw after they were grouped with Bayern Munich, Rosengard and Benfica in Group D.

Benfica is the club of Oshoala’s international teammate, Christy Ucheibe.

Group A comprises of English side Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Vllaznia Shkoder, the Albanian underdogs.

Wolfsburg, Slavia Prague, St. Poelten and Roma make up Group B.

Group C has been widely considered as the Group of Death as Oshoala’s former club, Arsenal is pooled along with Juventus and Swiss side, Zurich FC.

The group stage matches take place between October 19 and December 22 with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the quarter-finals.
