Early medical prognosis is not looking good for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu who may miss out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in another major blow to Nigeria’s chances of a third Africa Cup of Nations title.
Onuachu picked up a hamstring injury in Genk’s 1-1 home draw against Royal Antwerp on Sunday evening.
The beanpole striker had opened scoring for the Belgian side in the first half of the game before the injury setback.
The 27-year-old ended his seven-game goal drought on Wednesday in the Smurfs’ 4-2 win over Sporting Charleroi and he continued with another goal on Sunday. The Nigeria striker has now scored 12 goals in 18 league appearances this season.
Onuachu was replaced by Nigeria-born Ike Ugbo who now represents Canada in the  70th minute after the setback.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin their campaign in Cameroon against the Pharaohs of Egypt on January 11, 2022.
