Ojoto Development Town Union (ODTU), Lagos branch has begun construction of a legacy civic centre at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

Chairman of ODTU, Chief Alex Okwudili Agwuna, in a chat with Prime Business Africa at the building site during the association’s end of year party on Sunday, December 11, 2022, said it is a legacy project that would be bequeathed to their incoming generation to serve as a rallying point for physical meetings.

Chief Agwuna, who disclosed that the building which is currently at foundation level, will have two floors, a hall for meetings of members of the association and for people to host events, and also shops for business activities.

He expressed optimism that the building would be completed within the next two years given the level of commitment by the members to the project.

Ojoto is a town in Idemili South Local Council Area of Anambra State.

The ODTU chairman noted that hosting the end-of-year get-together at the association’s building site was a way of mobilising them to see the level of work done so far and make more commitments towards fastracking the project through financial contributions and other forms of material supports.

While thanking those who donated the money used in commencing the project, Chief Agwuna called on other members to participatively in the activities of the association and see the need to support the project which according to him will also be a source of revenue generation for them.

“We are thanking God for one year again, for giving us life, that’s why we are here.

“We are here to also show our people the ODTU building project that we have started. This is new ODTU site,” Agwuna said, pointing at the building site.

“The building will serve us when we are having meeting. We are going to have meetings here and we are also going to put it on rent. Individuals, churches, schools and organisations can come and rent it.”

“We want to live a legacy for our people that are coming. We are going to tell our children that this is the civic centre that Ojoto has in Lagos so that they will continue from where we stopped,” he further stated.

Speaking about the building project, the ODTU vice chairman, Mr Uzo Mbah expressed delight that they were able to begin raising the structure in their regime after many hurdles they encountered in the past in acquiring the land, and thanked God for giving the association’s members the grace to start the project.

Mr. Mbah hailed the ODTU chairman, Chief Agwuna, for his dedication and relentless effort that saw the commencement of the project.

He also acknowledged the encouragement and moral support by members of the ODTU executives and elders among them towards the building project and activities of the association generally.

Also speaking to Prime Business Africa at the event, an indigene of Ojoto, Rev. Canon Innocent Okafor, thanked God for blessing the people and bringing them together to embark on the project.

The clergy encouraged Ojoto people in Lagos to see the need to play active role in the association and also support the building project to ensure its completion in record time.

Members of the association made pledges of various sums of money to support the ongoing project.

Other highlights of the event included financial awards to selected members who played active roles in the association’s activities all through the year 2022, and distribution of Christmas gifts to children of ODTU members present at the event.
