North Korea has reportedly begun deploying troops to Russia in support of its war in Ukraine. This development has raised serious alarms globally, particularly in South Korea, which has called an urgent security meeting in response.
According to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of South Korea, North Korea has already sent 1,500 soldiers to Russia, with that number expected to rise to 12,000. This report comes alongside growing concerns about military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow, deepening tensions amid an already complex conflict.

South Korea’s NIS has confirmed that North Korea’s involvement is not limited to troops but also includes substantial arms shipments. Since August, Pyongyang has reportedly sent 13,000 containers of weapons, including missiles and anti-armor rockets, to Russia. It is estimated that they supplies include millions of artillery shells, such as 122-mm and 152-mm rounds. The NIS has presented aerial images of North Korean soldiers gathering at Russian military bases, further substantiating these claims.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has expressed grave concerns about North Korea’s growing involvement. “This poses a significant threat to regional and global security,” President Yoon stated during a high-level security meeting. He has urged the international community to take immediate and decisive action to counter the emerging alliance between North Korea and Russia.
