Following his nomination for the Grammy Awards, Femi Kuti, the first son of the late Afrobeat star Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has said that he does not do music to win awards, rather for the socio-political transformation of Nigeria and the continent of Africa.
A four-time Grammy Awards nominee, Femi Kuti said though he understands the politics and how to win a Grammy, he instead chose to channel his craft to speaking about socio-political ills.
According to Kuti, if his career was built on winning the Grammy or any award, he would not be based in Nigeria but the United States where the Grammy is held.
The scion of a freedom fighter, Kuti said “As a Nigerian fulfilment will be in a prosperous Nigeria and Africa.” He further stated that “no award can bring me such satisfaction.”
