Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, the popular Islamic cleric in Kaduna State.

Obi and Yusuf Daati Baba-Ahmed, his running mate, visited the cleric in his official residence in Kaduna State.

In a post on his official Twitter handle, the Labour Party presidential candidate who went with his running mate to honour an invitation from the Arewa Joint Forum, said:  “Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed and I stopped by for a courtesy call on Sheikh Gumi at his official residence in Kaduna.”

Gumi in  response to the gesture said,  “Beyond the 2023 elections, don’t let the Movement you have started to end.”

Meanwhile, the visit has generated mixed reactions, with some condemning it and others saying it is an act of building bridges of ethnic and religious tolerance.

Musa Dawa @Dawa1 said “This #Obidient team is a unifying team, with No discrimination, No Permanent Enemy but Permanent National Interest.”

He thanked the leadership and stakeholders of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for their gracious invitation.

Speaking at the event, Obi said he is a Nigerian running for the Nigerian Presidency to serve every Nigerian.

He said: “I continue to insist on a show of respect for every candidate, ethnicity, religion and person.”

  1. Nigerians have spent sixty two years finding faults with one another and inventing reasons why we should not see one another as brothers. This has impacted negatively on our nation building, and has landed us where we are today.
    Nigerians should realize that we owe a duty to black people all over the world to build a strong prosperous nation in order – to borrow the words of Nnamdi Azikiwe as expressed in the motto of the University of Nigeria – “TO RETORE THE DIGNITY OF (BLACK)MAN”
