Nigerians Questions VeryDarkMan Over ₦180 Million NGO Hack Claim After He Bought Benz

Popular social media commentator, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has come under fire after alleging that ₦180 million was stolen from his NGO’s account. Otse shared the claim in an Instagram video on Friday, stating that hackers had siphoned the money, leaving only ₦20 million behind.

However, his explanation has drawn widespread criticism online, with many questioning the plausibility of his account. This came after he purchase a multi-million naira Mercedes Benz AMG

Social Media Users Question VeryDarkMan’s Claim

Critics on social media have expressed doubts over the alleged incident. Twitter user Dr J (#truebenny001) skeptically asked, “Was the money in the website or the bank?” Another commentator, Basito (#Itzbasito), remarked, “VeryDarkMan said ₦180m is missing from the ₦200m donation for his NGO. See scope o, like say we be primary school students.”

Others questioned the logistics of such a significant transaction. Mikay (#stephen_mikay) pointed out, “It is not possible! Banks set limits to certain transactions. ₦180m cannot go out of a bank account at once without verbal confirmation from the signatories!”

Past Actions Return to Haunt VeryDarkMan

Many users brought up Otse’s history of critiquing others, suggesting a double standard. Star Girl (#lil_maamiiii) commented, “If it were someone else sharing this VeryDarkMan story, by now he would have set his ring light, with his dirty sachet water and black singlet, analysing God knows what. Lmaooo.”

Datoyo (#heyitzpearl) added, “If it were someone else, he would’ve worn a singlet, carried sachet water, set his phone, and pressed record.”

Calls for Cybersecurity Awareness Grow

Amid the skepticism, some commentators emphasised the importance of cybersecurity. Vincent The Therapist (#mrhighfoster) noted, “This is why cybersecurity should be taken seriously in Nigeria. When you know you have a public account receiving a large amount of money, you should enforce its security.

“Now you see why cybersecurity is in high demand all over the world. It’s to prevent issues like this from happening. It’s a very valuable skill to learn for 2025.”

Unanswered Questions Persist

As the controversy unfolds, Otse has yet to provide concrete evidence supporting his claims. Many netizens are calling for greater transparency, demanding details about the hacking incident and how the funds were managed.

The incident has sparked debates about accountability, cybersecurity, and the credibility of public figures in handling large donations. For now, the story of VeryDarkMan and the missing ₦180 million remains a hot topic online.
