Nigerian Stock Market Value Drops By N53.30bn

The value of the Nigerian stock market fell by N53.30 billion on Thursday, May 29, as the bourse’s capitalisation dropped from N70.56 trillion on Wednesday, May 28, to N70.51 trillion.

This was driven by a 0.07 percent depreciation in the all-share index (ASI), which lost 84.53 basis points from the previous day’s 111,902.61 ASI to close trading at 111,818.08 ASI.

Trading ended with investors exchanging 556,44 million shares in 18,505 deals worth N17.16 billion, against the 512.17 million shares traded by investors on Tuesday, in 16,711 deals, worth N17.11 billion.

Top five gainers

  • Mutual Benefit’s share price increased by N0.10 kobo to rise from N1 to N1.10 kobo per share.
  • UPL’s share value grew by N0.56 kobo, up from N5.61 kobo to N6.17 kobo per share.
  • Academy ended trading at N4.45 kobo per share, from N4.05 per share – indicating an increase of N0.40 kobo.
  • SCOA gained N0.43 kobo to end trading at N4.90 kobo, having opened with N4.47 kobo.
  • Livestock’s share value was up by N0.80 kobo, after closing at N9.15 kobo from N8.35 kobo per share.

Top five losers

  • Legend Internet’s share price depreciated by N0.76 kobo, dwindling from N7.60 kobo to N6.84 kobo per share.
  • Seplat recorded a N551.60 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N4964.40 kobo after opening with N5516 kobo per share.
  • Abbey Mortgage Bank lost N0.68 kobo in its share price after trading hours, to sell at N6.19 kobo from N6.87 kobo per share.
  • Omatek reported a decline of 8.97 percent from the previous day’s share price of N0.78 kobo to end trading at N0.71 kobo per share.
  • Learn Africa recorded a N0.28 kobo decline in its share price to end trading at N4.23 kobo after opening with N4.51 kobo per share.

  • UBA reported that 82.57 million shares valued at N2.86 billion were traded on its floor.
  • Fidelity Bank recorded 70.60 million shares valued at N1.36 billion.
  • Nigerian Breweries saw investors trade 37.20 million of its shares valued at N2.10 billion.
  • Tantalizer recorded 36.30 million shares exchanged on its floor, worth N90.97 million.
  • Zenith Bank reported 27.69 million shares valued at N1.34 billion exchanged in investors’ hands.
