In an appeal to the media, the Minister uged them to support this initiative by providing objective, factual, and balanced coverage. He emphasized the government’s dedication to delivering honest, credible, and timely information for the benefit of Nigerians.

Idris assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration would continue to provide a conducive atmosphere for the media to operate and requested media operators to reciprocate this gesture by carrying out their responsibilities with a strong sense of responsibility.

“Report what is accurate and leave what is in doubt; don’t report what is not factual; this country is ours, and it is for all of us to build,” he implored, highlighting the President’s willingness to provide the necessary information. He called on the media to focus on issues important for the nation’s development and to avoid spreading fake news, disinformation, and chaos.

Idris also acknowledged the security agencies’ successes and urged the media to provide ample coverage of their achievements in the fight against insurgency. He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens and visitors through investments in security personnel training, arms acquisition, and intelligence deployment.

The Minister warned against media reports that might mislead or undermine the morale of security personnel, pointing out that insurgent groups are not only waging a physical battle but also a psychological one.

Additionally, Idris appealed to foreign nationals not to issue unnecessary travel advisories, which could lead to false security alarms and discourage investors, adversely affecting the economy.

Regarding the impact of oil subsidy reduction, he assured that the government was taking measures to alleviate the associated hardships and stimulate the economy through the passage of a supplementary budget by the National Assembly.

Idris also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation is working on a mass reorientation campaign to promote unity, patriotism, and positive cultural values among Nigerians.

The event, attended by senior presidential media aides, Heads of the Ministry’s parastatals, and senior editors and bureau chiefs from across the print and electronic media, marked a step towards transparency and accountability in government projects and initiatives.
